Baby Furniture Rentals, a Few Precautions
If a baby furniture rental is something you are considering for your new baby, there are some very important things you should know first. Whether you are renting the furniture to eventually pay it off and buy it or renting it until the baby outgrows it does not really make a difference as far as these concerns.
The main concern you should have for baby furniture rental is how sterile it is. Because someone else may have used that same baby furniture before, you will want to take it home and give it a good cleaning. If for no other reason, than making sure your baby will have nice clean furniture to come home from the hospital to, you should also be concerned about germs. You don’t want your newborn getting sick from using a baby bed that held a sick baby right? Taking these precautions will help you prevent this from happening. Simply wash all of the prongs on the baby bed down with Lysol or your favorite disinfectant and this will no longer be a worry you should have.
Another concern you might have about a baby furniture rental is dust mites. Dust mites like mattresses, and your baby bed should come with a mattress when you rent it. If the mattress is new, you really should not have to worry about them. However, a baby bed mattress that is not covered on new plastic may not be new. First thing you should do with it is take the hose attachment of your vacuum cleaner and vacuum it really good. This should help remove any dust mites. The next step is taking it out into the sun on a hot sunny day and let the sun sterilize it for you. This will make it smell fresher and give it a good airing out as well.
After you have completed both of these step, your baby furniture rental should be ready for your baby. If you have rented any other pieces of furniture than a crib, be sure you Lysol those down too. Vacuum out the drawers of a dresser etc.. Taking these steps will get you ready for your baby’s arrival in no time.
